Gardening In the Rain

I am back from my wonderful trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin. It was my first batch of concerts in a couple months, and there is something about the rhythm I find when I am performing several days in a row, just like any other activity where you can just jump in. I love the job and the work of performance. 5 days in a row, solo, a duo with my friend Ann Reed, the magical Bird Show. .my brain and heart are doing zoomies!

But I found that many plants were already snatched up from my favorite nurseries when I returned! I did get a few things, though, and I had the meditative pleasure of planting in a gentle steady rain today. Basil, zinnias, cilantro, snapdragons, parsley, nasturtiums. nice to know it's all being watered simultaneous with planting. I was also  well watered and am now inside in dry clothes, trying to abate the chill. Now I get to enjoy leisurely preparing a scrumptious dinner without having to rush off to a gig. Another kind of rhythm, time in my kitchen. I baked a rhubarb custard pie earlier today, rhubarb purchased from the plump Amish lad at the Indian Castle Travel Plaza near Albany on the last leg of my trip home. Asparagus is here, and soon. .strawberries! I wish you a calm holiday time, moments in a garden, and the music of birds. See my new video at the Current Video page: Sweet Songbird!
